Diversity in Motherhood:: We All Love the Same

“Digging Deep:: Motherhood & Race Relations in America” Panel Discussion {Video Above}

Throughout the years, Houston Moms has cultivated hundreds of posts on diversity, race, equality, and has not been afraid to have the tough conversations. We are a diverse group of 40+ moms, of all races and sexual orientations. We have white moms, black moms, Asian moms, Latino moms, Indian moms, foster moms, moms of teenagers, moms of elementary school kids, moms of all walks of life.  Our points of view are all important. Our diversity is important.

In all of these posts, love shines through the words. All of us have the same goal:: to support moms, no matter the subject. We want you to feel the support that we have for you through our words. We also want you to know that you aren’t alone.

We love you. We hear you.

Our differences are important and should be highlighted. They should be celebrated and honored. We should have the tough conversations with our children so that other mothers don’t have to worry about their children when they walk out the door

We love our children. We all want our kids to be happy and healthy.

During these very difficult and stressful times, we felt it was important to bring together a panel of five of our incredible and diverse moms to have a very REAL conversation about race and raising kids. It’s deep, it’s intense, and the knowledge they bring to the table will be equally thought-provoking and heartbreaking. Let’s be a part of the solution. Let’s start the conversation here. It’s beyond time.

Jennifer is a native outside-the-loop’er growing up and living in the Richmond/Rosenberg area. She has a Bachelors in theology and political science from Texas Lutheran University and a Masters in Liberal Arts from Texas Christian University. She and her husband Greg met in 2010 through Match.com and fell in love on their first date. They married exactly one year later and have fought lovingly and constantly since. They have two amazingly brilliant girls, Kaitlyn {June 2013} and Elizabeth {June 2015} who Jen stays home with during the day. When Jen is not curled in a little ball rocking back and forth with Peppa Pig on in the background, she can be found crafting with her Silhouette and/or binge watching The Office for the millionth time. Jen has an uncanny ability to be comfortable in almost any situation put in front of her, thanks to growing up in politics and on the debate team. Before having kids of her own, she had the opportunity to help other kids through teaching, youth ministry, and generally being a helpful, kind soul.
