Houston Summer Fun for The Whole Family

Summer is here y’all, and our family is just itching to get out of the house and explore our city over the next few months. Houston is a treasure trove of adventure for all ages, and we can’t wait to cross many of these summer fun activities off our bucket list!

Houston Summer Fun for the Whole Family

  • Summer is a great time to encourage pleasure reading for your kids, and crack open a juicy beach read yourself! Enroll in one of many available summer reading programs, most with challenges and prizes for the whole family!
  • Explore Houston’s charming independent bookstores for the perfect beach read {and most of them have kids’ programs as well}.
  • Cheer for our hometown Houston Astros {Astros Kids Day is August 4} and Sugar Land Space Cowboys at a baseball game! Constellation Field, where the Space Cowboys play, is great for families with young kids, as it has both a playground and splash pad.

  • The Kemah Boardwalk is always a great destination for family fun- rides, shopping, and great food!
  • Explore over 95 city blocks of Houston- underground! Take the family on an underground adventure through downtown’s tunnel system, and finish up your visit with lunch at one of the tunnel’s many restaurants.
  • Make your way just before sunset to the Waugh Drive Bat Colony and be amazed as hundreds of thousands of Mexican Free-Tailed bats emerge to feast on Houston’s mosquitos.
  • In addition to viewing spectacular sea life, ride the Ferris wheel and check out the white tiger exhibit at the Downtown Aquarium.
  • Everyone loves a summer movie- why not do something different and visit one of Houston’s remaining drive-in movie theaters?

Elizabeth was raised in Houston and met her husband Ryan shortly after graduating from Texas A&M with a journalism degree. A few years later, Grayson {Sept 2010}, turned Elizabeth’s world upside down, not only with his sparkling blue eyes and killer smile, but with his profound disabilities and diagnosis of Mitochondrial Disease. After two years of navigating the world of special needs parenting, Elizabeth and Ryan were blessed with Charlotte {Jan 2013} and Nolan {Sept 2015}, perfectly completing their party of five. Elizabeth and her crew live in Katy, and when she can steal a few moments for herself, she can be found out for Mexican food and margaritas with girlfriends, binge-listening to podcasts and audiobooks, or trying once again {unsuccessfully} to organize her closet. In addition to her role as Managing Editor of HMB, Elizabeth writes about faith, politics and special needs parenting for publications like Scary Mommy and HuffPost. You can connect with Elizabeth on Facebook,Twitter, Instagram, or ElizabethKBaker.com
