A Houston Moms Guide to The Summer Games

This summer, in a country seemingly constantly divided on politics, culture wars, and endless social media controversies, we have a light in the darkness. The Summer Games are coming! Every four years, Americans can unite on one thing- our love for elite athletes competing at the highest level of their respective sports while representing the red, white, and blue. Here’s how you can be sure not to miss a minute of the action.

Where: Paris, France (main host city), and 16 other cities in France. There are even competitions being held in Tahiti!

When: Friday, July 26 (opening ceremonies)- Sunday, August 11 (closing ceremonies). Some events will begin on July 24.

Events: There are 329 events in 32 sports. New this year: breakdancing!

Representation: About 10,500 athletes from 206 countries will compete in the Games this summer. This includes an equal number of men and women!

How to Watch the Summer Games

As it has for years, NBC is the broadcast host of the Games and their website has a comprehensive schedule so you don’t miss a minute of your favorite athletes and events.

  • Local NBC station: check local listings for broadcast times of events. Prime Time coverage begins at 6:30pm CST each evening.
  • Other networks: CNBC, NBCSN, Olympics Channel, E!, Golf Channel, and USA will also air events.
  • Peacock: Streams all medal events live, and you can watch the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. You can subscribe for $5.99 for a month to cover the Games, or they are offering a great deal right now where you can get a whole year for just $19.99.
  • NBCOlympics.com: Follow the action online! Watch the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, some medal ceremonies, and event highlights for free.
