It’s Prime time you cash in on some of the good deals Amazon Prime Day sends your way. Amazon Prime Day is actually two days this year, July 12 and 13. *You must be an Amazon Prime member to participate in Prime Day. Houston Moms earns a small commission if you shop directly from our links.
48-Hours of Shopping & Lightning Deals
As mentioned, Prime Day is actually two days. Amazon does not release much sale information ahead of time, so this is not a detailed guide to savings on particular items.
Over the course of July 12 and 13, there will be multiple Lightning Deals every hour. These Lightning Deals typically provide the most savings, but the best ones run out fast. Both the quantities and the time available are limited. So, if you see a Lightning Deal that is appealing to you, do not hesitate.
Alexa Can Help, Too
If scrolling through endless deals seems overwhelming to you: Don’t. If you are already a Prime member, there are a few ways to know if things you actually want or need go on sale. The first way is by adding an item to your cart. This one is tricky, however, as you might accidentally buy it before it goes on sale. To avoid that, manually move it to “Save for Later” once it is in your cart. Another option, and my preferred method, is to add it to your Amazon Wish List. Up to 24 hours before it goes on sale, Alexa will notify you of any upcoming deals. Her light will glow yellow, and you only need to say “Alexa, what are my notifications?” Once she shares her shopping intel with you, it is up to you whether you tell her to buy it.
Stamp Collection
From June 16 through July 13, you can participate in collecting stamps. Once you collect all four “stamps,” you will earn a $10 credit. Stamps can be earned by doing each of the following:
- Purchase a Prime item
- Stream a show or movie on Prime Video
- Stream music on Prime Music
- Borrow an e-book on Prime Reading

Just in case you cannot wait until July 12, Amazon has already released some “Early Deals.” If you shop early, Amazon is offering bonus savings on future Prime Day purchases. Amazon has also released Prime Day coupons for additional savings.

Amazon Devices & Services
Amazon usually marks down their own devices (Alexa, Echo, Kindle, Fire, Fire Tablet, etc.) the most, so if you are looking to make your life a bit smarter, Prime Day is an excellent time to do so. Often times, Amazon will even include a smart plug or smart bulb with purchase.
If you read Six Ways Alexa Makes My Life Better, then you will understand the appeal of these in-home assistants. My favorite Alexa-enabled devices are: Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Dot for Kids, smart plugs, and my collection of Sonos One speakers.
This year, I hope to score a great deal on a Kindle. Paired with my Prime subscription, I would have instant access to so many great books. Not to mention, Amazon offers select Kindle titles for free.
Amazon recently announced that they are offering four months, instead of the typical one month, of free Amazon Music Unlimited to new subscribers. It is $8.99/mo after the trial period.
There are plenty of deals to keep the savvy shopper satiated this Prime Day. What are you hoping to score?
