The Art Bike Parade & Festival presented by Houston Parks Board and The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art (The Orange Show), is curated for families and is all about bringing Houstonians together. And the best part? It’s FREE! Experience the festival feel without the summer heat. Over the past three years, hundreds of incredible bikes have been created and showcased at the parade thanks to the involvement of local elementary and middle schools, community groups, and all of the individuals who have come out to join in on the fun.

For those of you wondering…what is an art bike? An art bike is any human powered uni-, bi-, tri-, quad- or multi-wheeled cycle or contraption that can be ridden or moved. All shapes, sizes, and bike modifications are welcome so get creative! Over the past three years, attendees have embellished their rolling creations with materials including paint, paper mache, glitter, wood, metal, sculptures, cloth, cardboard, and much more. A few fan favorites from 2024 included: a giant praying mantis, a larger- than-life armadillo, and a full band playing music on wheels. Whether you are a newcomer or art bike enthusiast- all are welcome! Keep it simple or go all out. The choice is yours.

This event is truly family-friendly. This year’s location at Fonde Park gives kiddos room to play safely; kid-friendly music will play over the loudspeakers; onsite food and beverage options will keep everyone’s energy up; and the festival activities are designed to entertain people of all ages.

Local organizations, large and small, will also offer a wide range of activities. This year, METRO is challenging attendees to games of skee ball; RYSS STEM Academy is bringing a free popcorn booth; Nature and Eclectic Outdoors is hosting lawn games, including lawn fishing, giant jenga, a flamingo ring toss, and more. The Houston Humane Society has our furry friends in mind at their pet bandana craft station and the Houston Grand Opera is performing a 22-minute fully-staged show as part of its Opera To Go! series! The Potter’s Smile, Children’s Museum of Houston, and The People’s CO2 are bringing more crafts and some photo ops; and BGirl City Worldwide will even be hosting beginner breakdancing workshops with a special coloring area!

After working in public education for a couple of years, she decided to stay home full time with their children, Charlie {2008}, Norah {2010}, and Will {2013}. The family moved to Katy in 2012, where they’ve been ever since. She loves decorating and even had her own small business for a while. She also loves to read, binge-watch old TV shows, talk politics and enneagram, and will not turn down a cup of strong coffee or a good conversation with a friend.
