Katy, Texas is an exploding part of the Houston area. Its boundaries lie in Harris County, Waller County, and Fort Bend County down I10 and Hwy 99. Katy is great for families for many reasons. There are amazing schools and tons of family-friendly activities. City of Katy and City of Fulshear {a neighboring town} boast events throughout the year that bring families together in clean fun.

Moms love Katy because there are TONS of things to do with kids of all ages. From gymnastics to Tae Kwon Do to outdoor and indoor playgrounds to our own water park, Katy is a great place to raise a family. With access to major highways like i10, Westpark Tollway, and Hwy 99, Katy is no longer a far away destination.

At HMB, we love family-friendly activities. If it’s hot outside {because, it’s HOUSTON}, we recommend these indoor play places and these awesome splash pads! We also love taking care of ourselves. We have compiled a list of mommy-favorite fitness classes around town that can help you with self care.
- Fort Bend County and Harris County Libraries- boast quite a few family friendly activities. Find your closest location here and here. Your kids will love the library and all of its FREE fun things to do. A few of us may even want to move into it! A lot of neighborhoods even boast Free Little Libraries that can help your kid keep their love of reading alive.
- Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center
- Katy City Park, also known as the “Train Park,” is THE park to visit in Houston right now. According to their website, they are the “state’s largest innovative playground for multiple-impaired and profoundly deaf children.” It has a 13,000 square foot playground, custom designed to feature the old Katy railroad. It’s huge and promises hours of fun for your little ones! This park has made our list of the BEST Parks in Houston!
- Typhoon Texas is Katy’s newest water park with rides for big kiddos and little kiddos. Relax in the lazy river, tan on the beach, or ride down one of the many tube slides.
- Exploration Park is an interactive park dedicated to children’s play, environmental stewardship, educational principles, and an overall site design inspired by water.
- Stomping Grounds Indoor Playground is a mom’s answer to a coffee break and indoor playground. With free WIFI, a coffee/snack bar, and a 3 story slide, you will probably never want to leave! They have a great toddler area and are fitted for many birthday parties at once!
- Hooray Playplace is a fun 10 and under indoor playground with interactive games, ball shooters, and tons of slides! They also have a great toddler area and snack bar. **Note:: It has been described as loud inside, so if you have a sensory-sensitive kiddo, check this place out first to see if they will like it.
- We Rock the Spectrum is a sensory-safe indoor playgrounds, classes, and birthday parties for ALL kids! They “provide a place for children of all ability levels to play and grow together.” With their sensory friendly equipment and mindset, all children are welcome and safe to play.
- La Centerra is an upscale retail development with parks, restaurants, and family events. Check out their Mommy and Me dance classes, Princess Play Dates hosted by Pointe of Grace Dance Studio, and more!
Childcare and Schools
We know finding great child care and schools is a daunting task. There are hundreds of great day care options in this area, but finding the right one for your family takes work. Katy is home to a few NAECY accredited pre-schools including St.Peters ECDC, and Katy ECEC. Katy is served by Katy ISD, which is one of the best school districts in the state. Not only is the general education superb, but families flock to KISD for the exceptional special education programs. They offer counseling for the SPED kids and families, anger management, and various parenting classes.
For private school options, Katy is home to:: Aristoi Classical Academy {K-12}, Mirus Academy, St. John XXIII High School, and British International Schools. There are also many charter schools across Houston, like YES Prep and Harmony Schools.
Perfect Date Night/Staycation
Mommy breaks like date nights, an occasional brunch, and staycations are an important part of self care.

We feel comfortable “peacing-out” and leaving our kiddos in the trustworthy hands of Best Buds Babysitting, knowing they will be taken care of {especially after we pick up one of the best pizzas in the area for everyone to enjoy}. They are happy. We are happy. Everyone wins!
