Summer is here, y’all! I am SO excited because one of my favorite things about the summer is taking my family to the beach. I wanted to compile a list of some of my favorite items to use at the beach with children, and I hope this will encourage you to put a beach trip on your bucket list for this year!
A Wagon
We have had our wagon for several years now, and it has been clutch going to the beach! We got it at Academy, so it was very affordable and durable. I can put my girls in it, or beach items, and pull it over concrete streets, wooden piers, or soft sand. We have stayed at several places where the beach access was a bit of a ways away, and it is so instrumental to have a way to carry a bunch of stuff!
A Large Beach Blanket
If you are taking little ones to the beach, it is so helpful to have a large blanket to lay on the sand. I like mine that I got from Target; it is lightweight, doesn’t hold sand, stays cool, and washes easily. Plus it is so big, so I can put chairs, an ice chest, toys and a sleeping baby on it all at once.
Comfortable Water Shoes
My girls LOVE these water shoes that I got on Amazon. They have so many cute patterns! I like that they are comfortable and dry off quickly. My girls don’t wear them as much on the beach, but I will put them on them if we go walking through the water so they don’t step on sharp shells. If you have a child that doesn’t like the sand between their toes, this would be a great option.
A Portable Potty
Ok, I know this seems super random, but who has been at the beach with a child that has recently or is currently potty training? {Me, me!} My oldest daughter is four, and we don’t go anywhere in the car without a portable potty. Even now, with her having been potty trained for over a year and a half, we still keep it with us in case we get stuck somewhere without access to a bathroom. We put it in the back of the car and 1,2,3… she’s good to go! It is most likely that you will be at a beach without a bathroom nearby, and who wants to have to run back and forth back to your house or condo when kiddos need to go. Portable potty to the rescue!
Quality Sunscreen and Lotion
My favorite sunscreens to put on my girls are either ThinkBaby or Babyganics. They smell good, go on nicely and last a long time. I especially like that they are still considered safe to use after a number of products were found to contain benzene, a cancer-causing ingredient. You can read the study here and find a list of safe sunscreens here. I also like this Aruba Aloe lotion for possible sunburns.
Well, moms, I hope these items help your next trip to the beach! And the beauty of all of these products is that they are not just for the beach, but for the pool, backyard, zoo, park and beyond! Is there anything in particular that is a MUST for you for the beach? Let us all know below! Have a wonderful summer!
