The Ultimate Houston Food Truck Guide

Eat Here food truck

My first visit to a food truck was in the late 1990s in downtown Los Angeles. We referred to the nearby food truck as the “roach coach”. Food trucks have come a long way since then and have evolved into trendy and unique mobile gourmet bistros. Food truck chefs can afford to specialize and perfect dishes without the cost of keeping up a full staff and leasing restaurant space. The food truck scene in Houston is vibrant and fresh with over 390 food trucks serving the greater Houston area. With so many food trucks to keep track of in the fourth largest city in America, I put together a comprehensive source for Houston food truck finders.

Top Houston Food Trucks

Foreign Policy Food Truck

Foreign Policy Korean Fries
Foreign Policy Donut Burger

Greek or Mexican for dinner? How about Korean? Anyone want to go for a burger? The answer to all of these questions and more is the Foreign Policy Food Truck. Just like the name emblazoned on the truck, the menu here brings together global influences at one convenient location. They cleverly divided up their menu to showcase American, Korean, Greek, and Mexican Policies. Each “Policy” includes at least a burger, loaded fries, and pita sandwich that embodies the flavors of each country. The Korean Burger comes with Korean BBQ beef and kimchi while the Mexican pita is loaded with homemade queso, Mexican beef and pork fajita steak. The Greek loaded fries are topped with Gyro meat, tzatziki sauce and feta cheese and you can always keep things close to home and get the Donut burger from the American Policy Menu. These innovative menu creations truly represent the multi-cultural voices found throughout Houston.

Oh My Gogi

Oh My Gogi Ramen Burger
Oh My Gogi Loaded Fries

In keeping with our multicultural theme, Oh My Gogi touts itself to be a Korean Mexican food truck. Menu items include a Gogi Melt, Gogi Burger, and Gogi Sliders. Gogi, short for Gogigui which is known as Korean barbecue, is the tasty sweet and savory BBQ meat (beef or chicken) that is the centerpiece of the majority of the menu items at Oh My Gogi. But there are definitely some tasty dishes that you may be hard-pressed to find elsewhere like the Ramen Burger and the Kimchi Quesadilla. The loaded fries here are probably the most “loaded” I have seen. Besides the usual cheese and meat, you can add chilled kimchi and a fried egg!

Mingo's Lonchera Tacos
Mingo's Tequila

Mingo’s Latin Kitchen is a fusion of Mexican and Latin American flavors. This culinary force on wheels serves unique dishes each packed with culinary influence from south of the border. The empanadas come in orders of two and are fried to order. They go the extra mile with not just chicken tacos but fried chicken tacos made with beer-battered fried chicken. The Lonchera tacos are a fan favorite along with the brisket tacos, because this is Texas of course. Even the loaded fries, sandwiches, and appetizers, which include traditional elote and ceviche, incorporate fresh Mexican and Latin ingredients like cilantro and adobo cole slaw.  In the end, you can also wash it all down with a one-of-a-kind refreshing Mango-rita topped with chamoy.
