Ten years ago, I had the privilege of celebrating my first-ever mother’s day while pregnant with my oldest. On the cusp of my third trimester, those around me already bearing the title of “Mom” batted no eyes as they joyously ushered me into the sacred club of Motherhood, celebrating me and my baby on the way.
To say I was flattered and excited would be an understatement. To say I was also completely clueless about the magnitude of the journey I was about to begin would also be an understatement.
So much has transpired over the last decade, and with each passing moment, my appreciation for, and admiration of all the fellow moms in my circle has only grown.
In honor of all of them and all the other moms out there across the world, here’s ten-plus reflections on motherhood, from a few mothers I adore.
- “It fulfills your life so much and brings so much extra joy. I couldn’t imagine growing old and not having family.” — Yvonne W., mom of three, grandmother to seven and great grandmother to four
- “If you have children, love them and make sure they’re educated. They’re the future and the way you nurture them is the way they’re going to grow up.” — Gloria M. mom of three, grandmother to five and great grandmother to six
- “Two words pop into my head when I think of motherhood….rewarding and blessed.” –Teresa M., mom of two, grandmother of four
- “Motherhood is an adventure that never stops. There will be peeks and valleys, but just do your best and don’t be so hard on yourself.” — Deeann D., mom of three, grandmother to two
- “As they’ve grown, I’ve found I want to spend all my time with them. The younger years are of course more chaotic with lots of ‘what are you doing?!’ moments, but now our bond is different, we’re so close.” — Drea R., mom of three under 16
- “Motherhood makes you appreciate your parents more.” — Kara O., mom of two under 12
- “I’m in a constant loop of survival mode with no idea who I am anymore other than ‘that kid’s mom’ in public. And, naturally, I ended up with the exact child my parents warned me I’d have when I was a teenager, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! Mom life is the best life!” — Amanda S., mom of 2 under 8
- “Motherhood is all about rediscovering life through another pair of little eyes. It’s finding magic in the simple things like the first time they see the sunset, a ladybug or the beach. It’s wanting to show them more of the world, just to see their reaction (and hoping they love what you love…kind of like dating 😛 ) – Kieu-Thu F., mom of one under 5
- “Motherhood helps you find your inner strength. Once you become a mother, there is no going back.” — Amye J., mom of one under five
- “Becoming a mom makes you realize what is actually important in life. It’s remembering to give grace and kindness to everyone around you. It’s allowing yourself to make mistakes and apologize when needed. It’s hoping your children will flourish and grow to be healthy, compassionate, resilient beings who will make the world a better place. Being a mom is the hardest, yet most rewarding job out there.” — Devin S., mom of three under five
- “Motherhood is just one more book.” –Courtney S., mom of one under four
- “Motherhood has strengthened my faith as it’s shown me that the way I unconditionally love my children and already see them as perfect is exactly how God sees and loves me. God loves us as we love our children and I never understood the depth until I became a mom.” — Megan M., mom of two under four
- “While being a mom has been completely exhausting and all-encompassing, it’s also made my life so much more fun and fulfilling,” — Liz O., tired mom of one under one
To all the moms out there, own the wisdom you have to share, because regardless of where you are in your journey, I guarantee it’s bountiful.
I feel honored to be part of this motherhood club and wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day!
