We Want You! {Open Contributor Call for Houston Writers & Creators}

we want you to be a houston moms contributor

  • Are you interested in connecting with other Houston moms and rediscovering your love for creative writing?
  • Do you enjoy social media, creating reels, and being a local influencer? Are you looking for ways to grow your personal channels?
  • Are you an expectant or new mom who wants to share this incredible journey, both the ups and downs? Perhaps you know of all the best places to shop for your little one or the must-have equipment & gear for baby?
  • Are you the in-the-know mom? The one whose friends always text because you’ve got the scoop – whether it’s knowing what’s happening around town or knowing the how to’s when it comes to your baby/toddler/teen? Houston Moms welcomes your know-how, and we’d love to share your voice!

For this open call, our goal is to give space to the voices and experiences we aren’t publishing yet. If you enjoy writing or creating, are passionate about motherhood, and don’t see your experience represented by our content, we’d love to hear from you. We’d especially love to see representation from our North Houston, SE Houston, and Inner Loop mamas. Diversity is incredibly important to us, and we welcome moms from all cultural backgrounds, family structures, and parenting stages.

So, is it your voice and experience that we’re missing? We want to hear from you!

Maybe it’s not you, but your friend who would be perfect for this! We hope you’ll tell them about this opportunity!

This is a volunteer position, but there are some really fun perks to make it all worthwhile. Note: you do NOT have to be a writer to apply! We are simply looking for local moms who love to share stories, have a passion for motherhood and their community, and are looking for a way to connect!

Want to know more?

We so appreciate that you would consider sharing your thoughts, experience, and inspiration to the Houston Moms readers! Before you think more on the opportunity, please read the following guidelines and feel free to contact us with any questions.

  • Think LOCAL: We love to keep all of our content relevant to the Greater Houston area…or at least within driving distance for day trips and outings. Articles can feature places to go and things to do while more general topics {feeding, potty training, DIY…} can be given a local twist simply because they are written by a local mom – YOU!
  • Think MOMS: It may sound obvious, but our target audience is made up of moms, so it only makes sense that our content remains under the broad category of parenting, within which you have a ton of subtopics to choose from – the experience of being a mom, stages and phases of development, tips and tricks, home management strategies specific to moms, and of course, all the locally-focused ideas mentioned earlier. At the end of the day though, we are all moms just trying to make our lives a little bit more enjoyable. If you have an idea that interests you and your friends, then our readers would probably love to read about it too!
  • Think CONNECTIONS: We encourage you to think critically about ways to engage your audience. Try to include clever and catchy post titles that draw people in or spark curiosity, and give your readers a reason to comment by asking questions – “So tell me, what is the most awful potty training experience you have ever encountered?”
  • Most Importantly: Write what you love, and love what you write! Create what you love, and love what you create!

As you consider what content to submit as a sample with your application, please think on these important guidelines…

  • Your sample submissions should be original to you, meaning, you are the author. Please keep copyright infringement laws in mind.
  • Kinda obvious, but we have to say it… content should be free from the following – profanity, sexual language, political endorsement of a party or candidate, political commentary, op-ed commentary on controversial social and/or political issues, and derogatory or inflammatory language.

What you GIVE…

  • 9 original posts per calendar year that fits within the brand and mission of Houston Moms
  • A 12-month commitment beginning October 1st, 2025
  • Reside within the Greater Houston metro area
  • A passion for moms, kids, and our community
  • Availability to attend our social events {approximately 1 per quarter}
  • A reliable, positive and fun personality!

What you GET…

  • Your photo and bio on the Houston Moms contributor page {with links to your personal blog and/or social media handles if you choose to share them}
  • Involvement in our Contributors Facebook group
  • Opportunities to attend media events as representatives of Houston Moms
  • Information and professional development in the areas of writing, blogging, SEO, social media, and event management
  • New friendships and an amazing experience!

So what’s next in the application process?

  • Fill out the application below and be sure to include your writing sample.
  • Watch for updates via email. Once we close submissions, we’ll let you know that we’re on the way to bury ourselves in all of your content. All ongoing updates will be sent by email as well! Applications are open now until Septmber 12th. *No exceptions*

Meagan is a Dallas native who has lived in the Katy area for almost two decades. She kicked a soccer ball all the way to Louisiana to attend college at her family’s alma mater of LSU, where she promptly fell in love with a Texas Aggie in Baton Rouge for an internship. After swimming back to Texas following Hurricane Katrina, Matt and Meagan fell in love with the Houston area and now couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. Following several years of infertility, their miracle twins Ryan and Quinn were born in June of 2010. She believes there is nothing better than a chilled glass of Pinot Grigio, a large Sonic Diet Coke, sushi take-out, Girls Nights Out, and a mindless book to curl up with. Besides playing chauffeur and catering to the whims of her children, Meagan also is the Co-Owner of Houston Moms. You can keep up with Meagan on Instagram, @meaghtx!
