I’ve recently found a little gem in my neighborhood that I can’t get enough of…the dollar store! Y’all. This place is incredible. And like many other realizations in my adult life, I’m the last to the party, as my friends and neighbors already knew about the great steals you can find at this modern-day version of a general store.
As I’m preparing my family for our summer of road trips, play dates, beach days, and all the fun we can handle outside, I looked no further than the dollar store to meet my needs!

Coloring Activities
When traveling on road trips or even just driving around town, the kids need entertainment in the backseat that doesn’t always come in the form of kicking the back of my chair or screen time. Thankfully, the dollar store has an impressive selection of coloring activities to keep them entertained for miles!
Sidewalk Chalk
Jumbo crayon sidewalk chalk…what’s not to love?! This chalk is hard to break and could easily last all summer long! And don’t forget to try some of these fun sidewalk chalk ideas while you’re at it too!
Pool Noodles
One brief glance at Pinterest, and you’ll find 746 things to do with a pool noodle…besides floating on it in a pool. These creative sticks can become light sabers or the path for an obstacle course! And at only a dollar, I’ve stocked up on every color!
“Crocs” {or at least the generic version, anyways}
The ugliest, cutest shoes our kids love to wear. And wouldn’t you know…the dollar store carries these, too, in fun characters like superheroes and My Little Pony!
Beach Balls
Have a ball this summer with these ONE DOLLAR beach balls! It was a no-brainer to add these to my cart, especially because they come in sports ball patterns, and I just know my boys will love them!
Folding Chairs
Our family loves tailgating chairs! Dollar General has them for only $10 in all of your kids’ favorite characters. This might be my favorite find to date!

Baby Powder
Mom Hack #1 :: Use baby powder to get the sand off of everyone after a day at the beach!
Baskets
Mom Hack #2 :: This basket is ideal for outdoor toy storage year round, and in the summers you can load it up with pool noodles and sand pails and take it to the beach. For only $8, it’s an absolute steal!
Spray Bottles
Mom Hack #3 :: Fill these spray bottles with water and stick them in the freezer overnight. While at the splash pad the next day, spray the kids {or adults} when they get too hot and need a quick cool down.
Coolers
A small igloo {YES – the real igloo brand} is perfect for keeping cold drinks and fruit poolside! See….isn’t the dollar store fantastic?
Holiday Gear
You can stock up on fun holiday decor and trinkets – like these Fourth of July glow sticks! It’s like the Target Dollar Spot dropped off a few fun finds at the dollar store!
