Put Your Phone Down While Driving + 5 Other Ways to Keep Safe This Holiday Season

Six months ago I was in a rollover car accident that should have taken my life. Unfortunately a driver distracted by a cell phone ran a red light and hit me t-bone style, subsequently flipping my car one and three-quarters time. I’m so thankful that I walked away {as did the driver}, but the months of physical therapy and emotional therapy following certainly took their toll.

a Honda pilot flipped over on a roadwayI will fully admit that before the accident, I would get lazy about cell phone safety and just send that “one last text.” Talk about a wake up call. And now with the holidays, everyone is SO busy and rushing everywhere on our crazy roadways, trying to fit in all the things. I beg of you, just put the phone down when you are driving. Sending that one last text will do you absolutely no good if it’s truly the last text you’ll ever have a chance to send. Your family needs you around this holiday season!

Our friends at UTMB Health want to ensure you are staying safe during the holidays so we have a great video below touching on how to do just that so you and your loved ones don’t miss out on one aspect of celebrating this season!

Thank you to Dr. Bindi Naik-Mathuria, the Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery at UTMB Health, for spending time with us and sharing 5 other ways to keep your kids safe this season so that her team doesn’t have to see your child in the operating room anytime soon.

We are chatting about all these important topics above:

  • Toy safety
    • Ensuring all the new gifts and gadgets are set up accordingly
    • Caution around batteries – which types of batteries are most dangerous for kids
