5 Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day at Home With Your Family

Before kids, Valentine’s Day was never one of my top favorite holidays. My husband and I always celebrated every year because it was a fun excuse to dress up and we enjoyed going out for a fancy dinner, but it always came and went without much fanfare.

One of the things I love about kids, though, is how much fun they make everything. Anything can be a celebration. Any holiday can be made special. With the prevalence of social media, we have a plethora of ideas on how to celebrate literally anything – for better or for worse. The pressure to perform for the ‘gram can take the fun out of something that has the potential to be a fun time for you to celebrate love in your family.

So if the pressure to perform feels too great or you just don’t have it in you this year, fine! Your kids won’t know the difference and they don’t love you any less. However, if you feel like getting into this spirit of the holiday this year, I have some super simple ideas for how you can celebrate Valentine’s Day at home with your family.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day at Home

Matching Jammies

Matching jammies are not just for Christmas anymore! I love a matching jammies moment for any occasion, but there is something especially adorable about babies in heart pajamas. My boys especially love anything from Little Sleepies, but a quick Google search will give you more holiday themed pajama options than you will know what to do with.

Valentine’s Day Heart Suncatcher Craft

This super simple craft can be fun for the whole family. My 2 1/2 year old especially loved the process of ripping up tissue paper squares. Honestly, that part alone could have entertained him for hours. The end results were even easy enough to fold in half and stick in the mail for some homemade Valentines for grandparents.

Strawberry Valentine’s Chex Mix

I love a box of chocolates as much as the next girl, but if you’re looking for a holiday themed treat that has slightly less sugar and is maybe even borderline healthy, this Valentine’s Day take on Chex mix is sure to hit the spot. We ate it in a matter of days at my house!

Cupid Baskets

Type ‘cupid baskets’ into Pinterest and you will find a wide array of ideas, but the concept is fairly simple: think Easter basket but Valentine’s Day themed. A cute red or pink basket filled with some little holiday themed goodies for your kiddo: socks, pencils, stickers, etc. Just like with everything these days you can go as big or as simple as you want. Waking up to a fun special treat no matter how big or small will go a long way with your little loves.

Heart Shaped Pizzas

It may not be a romantic dinner for two in the city’s most buzzed about new restaurant, but for me there’s nothing quite like letting your kid’s creativity loose in the kitchen. This is a great guide on how to get started, but this is a super fun and simple one to customize exactly how you like.
