A Holiday Piercing Adventure at Rowan
I thought I was just dragging my best friend to Rowan for a little holiday outing — you know, browse the jewelry, grab some cute footage, have a moment. But what actually happened turned into one of my favorite Rowan memories. For reference, I have been a Rowan fan since I got my third lobe piercings way back when they were in Target stores. My entire “stack” is Rowan. I’ve been obsessed for awhile, and I was absolutely thrilled to have this in-store brick and mortar experience. And with my bestie, no less. We are now even more bonded after our trip!
“I’m Scared of Needles”
Within five minutes of walking into the Highland Village studio, my friend leaned over and whispered, “I’m scared of needles,” like she was about to be drafted.
But here’s the thing: Rowan nurses are the calmest, most welcoming humans on Earth. They explained everything, answered every question, and made the whole environment feel safe and celebratory.
Watching Others First
We stood there watching one woman get her lobe pierced and another get her helix done — neither of them even blinked. Suddenly, Miss “I’m terrified of needles” was like, “…Maybe I’ll get my upper lobes redone?”
Cue me being a little protective and “Are you sure?!?” But she was resolute as she picked out her new jewelry and I must say, she picked the perfect flat back studs for her. This is where we differ – I go towards shiny, glinting, gold things. She’s more of an understated and “silver-only, please” type gal. The best part? Rowan has BOTH. Jewelry to satisfy a variety of preferences. And guys, they have literally the cutest seasonal adornments.
Shoutout to Bailey and the Other Registered Nurses
Enter Bailey, our nurse. She walked my friend through every step:
- Checked the placement.
- Marked everything carefully.
- Told her to take a deep breath.
And that was it. Done. No flinch, no drama — and yes, the camera was rolling the whole time. She was such a rockstar and I was super proud of her. Another moment, another memory for Brandi and I in the record books. Loved having the time together – seriously a perfect mom’s day out. On my mind, too, was my daughter – she would absolutely go bananas, so under the tree her gift card goes!
Hypoallergenic Studs & Responsible Adulting
Now she’s rocking perfect little hypoallergenic studs that will stay put for the next year while she does her whole cleaning-solution routine like a responsible adult. Can we just talk about how far the cleaning of fresh piercings has come? Back in the day, it was a whole lot of gauze pads and hydrogen peroxide, and perhaps even rubbing alcohol. These days, the routine is much simpler and much more gentle, will leads to better healing results. I know that’s such a relief for me personally in thinking of my 15 year old adding another thing to her already busy skin regimen.
The Moral of the Story
Yes, Rowan is staffed by licensed nurses. Yes, it’s safety-first. Yes, all jewelry is hypoallergenic.
But also? Rowan is awesome.
