Friday Favorites :: Sunday Funday Edition

Houston Moms "Friday Favorites:: A Weekly Glance at Our Favorite Things" #houstonmoms #houstonmomsblog #momsaroundhoustonIt’s Friday, which means it’s time for another Friday Favorites! This may be breaking the rules a bit, but when I started tossing ideas around with my husband on things that were making me happy right now, he said unequivocally, “Sunday Funday”… and he is absolutely not wrong. During the week we grind hard, and there is nothing like taking a break away from the responsibilities and stressors of the week to reconnect with each other, our family, and our friends in a safe way. So check out some of my favorite ways to Sunday Funday!

Brunch

We recently discovered Onion Creek in the Heights. This gem has been open in Houston since 2002, and I feel like I’ve been missing out this whole time! We love this place because of the incredible patio with lots of seating for a socially distant experience, and mature trees providing a shady sanctuary. There are also plenty of spaces in the sun, which is wonderful for the crisp cooler mornings we are having right now! Breakfast is served every day from 7am-11am, but on the weekends their Funky Brunch runs from 7am-2pm with a live DJ providing the best vibes for your Sunday. The food is killer {try the bacon and egg toast!}, and their brunchy drink menu does not disappoint. While you’re there you can snag one of their signature Bloody Marys, or {of course} pick up a mimosa – classic or frozen!

Lunch with the Fam

We love eating out. To a fault, really. But if you ask anyone in my family what we like to do for fun, sitting on a patio and eating delicious food is one of our favorites! One of our local {Richmond/Fulshear} family favorites is Texas Borders. Any time of year we can go, and everyone can find something they love {Tex-Mex, pastas, wraps and sandwiches, burgers, salads, even Keto and vegetarian items – they have it all!} but right now you can bet our table is full of crawfish. With just the right amount of spice, awesome size bugs {especially this early in the season} and a price you can’t complain about, Borders is our go-to lunch spot for the fam. You can catch us sitting on the patio, where the kids enjoy the play area or a game of cornhole, and Mom and Dad enjoy the tunes and a Borders Screw Top {a frozen screwdriver with an overturned Blue Moon or Shock Top in the mix!}

Sundays in the Park

One of the other things at the top of our family fun list is simply getting out and enjoying the sunshine! Extra bonus points if we can bring the pups along for a day of running and playing. One of our favorite places to get out with the pups is Johnny Steele Dog Park along Buffalo Bayou. The dogs can enjoy a sprawling are to run, a pond to swim in and places to catch some shade and wash up when it’s time to go. Once we’ve enjoyed the dog park, we love to walk along the bayou and enjoy the sights and sounds of Buffalo Bayou Park.

Party Tricks for a Fun Night In

While we love to get out, sometimes Sunday Funday means a chill night in. That doesn’t mean it needs to be boring, though! One of our favorite new additions to our kitchen is this cocktail smoker from Williams Sonoma. My husband and I love a good Old Fashioned more than any other cocktail but finding a quality smoked Old Fashioned close to home has been hard to come by. However, with this super cool tool we can add the layer of favor to our cocktails and wow our friends with a cool party trick. Smoked old fashioned are not the only fun thing to come from our smoker! We have also enjoyed smoked margaritas and Manhattans.

We aren’t always about getting out or entertaining on a Sunday. Sometimes the best Sundays are filled breakfasts in bed, Netflix binges, watching Hamilton {again} and taking the best naps. But if you’re feeling adventurous, check out some of the places/products above and let us know what you think! What are your favorite ways to Sunday Funday? What are some of the must-visit places around town for brunch and patio fun? Let us know!
