I don’t know about you, but I’ve had my fair share of margaritas over the past year. In March 2020, when words like lockdown, virtual learning, and Zoom were becoming commonplace, my family was in San Antonio for spring break. I remember sitting on a patio drinking a margarita talking to my husband about how long we thought this “thing” would last.
Here we are, a year later, celebrating National Margarita Day and we are still mostly at home. I can’t wait until the day we can meet our friends at restaurants and give each other big hugs. Then we can sit down to order margaritas and all eat from the same chip basket which now seems so unsanitary. Until that day can happen, thank goodness that we can get our cocktails to go and celebrate this day as we should – with a ‘rita in hand!
Restaurants
This one surprised me. Sure, I love their tacos, but their margarita is great too, and about as affordable as they come. I ordered their classic margarita and other than having to put the salt on my glass at home {there are some things we are still going to have to do} I gave it two thumbs up. So did my husband, who is little picky when it comes to his margaritas. Pick- up was incredibly easy and contactless. There seems to be a Torchy’s on every corner these days, so there should be one near you!
Another crowd-pleaser, Escalante’s, has their delicious margaritas {I’ve heard mango is a crowd pleaser} to-go in single servings or, in bulk! Yes, you can buy their margaritas in quart, half gallon, and gallon sizes. This might be a good option if you want to save some for after National Margarita Day or plan to share in a responsible socially distant way with neighbors.
If you are more of a champagne drinker than a tequila drinker, but still want to celebrate National Margarita Day, the Champagne Margarita from Local Table might be for you. I haven’t actually tried this, but the idea of champagne in a margarita is appealing, yet strange, to me. And, shouldn’t you have champange when celebrating a national holiday?
Craft Cocktail Mix
If getting out of the house just seems like too much, but you still want your margarita fix, you can also order pre-made craft cocktail mixes from Modern Vintage. Modern Vintage is a Houston-based company that sells their craft mixes online and in several specialty stores in the area. Their Spicy Strawberry Basil and Ginger Margarita are so easy when you want a delicious cocktail at home. You mix two ounces of the mix with two ounces of tequila and you have a restaurant worthy margarita made in your own kitchen! Each bottle makes approximately eight cocktails.
My favorite Margarita Recipe
If you are a purist, and want to make your own margarita at home, my family’s go to recipe is below. It is simple, but oh so delicious!
1 ¼ ounces tequila
1 ½ ounces fresh squeezed lime juice
1 ounce Cointreau
However you decide to celebrate this made up holiday, I hope you do, because we can all use some celebrating and margaritas in our lives.
