How to Show Your Child’s Teachers They are Appreciated

Can you believe the end of the 2025-2026 school year is almost here?! We are almost at the finish line! The memories of homework, studying for tests, recess, trips, and projects are almost done. And, a big part of who we have to thank is our educators for getting us through! This year, Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8, 2026.

teacher stands in front of students who are seated and workingTeachers play an important role in education-they are the backbone of our education system. Approximately 77% of Texas K-12 educators reported experiencing burnout in 2025, according to a survey by Texas American Federation of Teachers. The job of a teacher is never done, many bringing paperwork home to grade, or spending their own money on resources for their classrooms. They are our cheerleaders, guide on the side, and continually pouring into students day in and day out.

As I reflect on my years in the classroom as a teacher, I remember how exhausting it was. But, also, I reflect on being able to give back by helping shape the future of society. Teachers have a powerful impact on each and every student’s life that passes through their classrooms.

Here are some ways you can give back to your child’s teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week:

*Volunteer for your school’s teacher appreciation week, or pitch in to assist with treats as sharing your time is always welcome.
* Have your child write a handwritten card for your teacher, listing specific things that you were grateful for. I guarantee this will make any teacher feel like a million bucks!
* Buy a small gift/gift card. Tip: coffee shop cards will get them through the last few weeks of school.
*If you love to bake or are a creative, consider DIYing your gift. Make cookies, or decals of their name on items.
*Make a short video of each of the kids saying thank you to the teacher.
*Take the time to send an email yourself. Teachers love to hear from parents how their role has impacted their child.

Gestures like this will have a positive impact on your school community, no matter how small the effort as the positive ripple effects are enormous!
